CALIFORNIA SPANGLED CAT

The California spangled cat is medium sized cat that have long, lean and very muscular body. Their coat comes in a wide palette of spotted colors: silver, bronze, gold, red, blue, brown, black and charcoal, while the spots are always strongly contrasted. As if you took leopard and made it much smaller. California spangled even have that posture of great predator cat. Their legs have nearly 90 degree angle at the elbow, adding to effect that they walk low and careful, like very dangerous cat. And they appear much larger than they are. The face is expressive and intelligent, with a broad whisker pads, well developed muzzle and contoured cheekbones. Its eyes are almond-shaped, set well apart, with a gently slope. Ears are placed high on the head and well behind the eyes contributing to the look of the wild cat. Their intelligence fits into their illusion of a wild and dangerous cat, but they are not dangerous or aggressive. Except to mice or small birds. They are energetic and very playful, often fond of doing acrobatics in the entire house. Active playing with them is something they immensely enjoy. But beside their energy, they are also very devoted to the family and there is great chance you will find your cat napping in your lap while you do something she is not involved in.

ORIGIN: California spangled cat is completely “artificial” breed. The breed was actually engineered by Paul Casey through 11 generations of selective breeding. It all started in 1971 when he was in Africa and heard that last leopard in that territory have been killed by poachers. He thought if people had small cat that looked like leopard they would give it more thought for preserving wild species. He started with Siamese, Angoras, British shorthairs, American shorthair, Manx, and Abyssinians in creation of core bloodline. Later he added spotted street cat from Egypt that possessed the feral, primitive look he wanted. The Egyptian cat is very old breed and descends from ancient cat worshiped in old Egypt . That way he introduced original and wild gene for spots, but also very soft and social temperament, making the cats very devoted.
