GERMAN REX
The German Rex is a medium sized, strong and muscular cat. The body development is heavier than the Cornish Rex - more like the European Shorthairs . They have slender legs of a medium length and small oval paws. The head is round with well developed cheeks and large, open, ears. The eyes are of medium size, well opened, in colours related to the coat colour and are set at a good distance from the nose. Their coat is silky because of the lack of guardhairs and short, with a tendency to curl. The whiskers also curl. A German Rex is very friendly cat
and quickly makes contact with its owner. It is lively, playful and intelligent. It is the master of all acrobatic tricks, which it repeats again and again with huge enjoyment. They need people, and given a choice will spend most of their time with humans.
ORIGIN: German rex as a breed appeared in 1930 in Königsberg . As a crossbred of Angora and Russian Blue. There were three curly kittens, but only one, named Munk remained uncastrated. He mated with plenty queens, but no selective breeding took place. The breeding formaly started in 1951. Dr Rose Scheur-Karpin noticed in the hospital garden a black, curly coated, cat, actually it was there for four years, but she didn't notice it before. She named her Lämmchen (German for little lamb). Today is Lämmchen considered as mother of all pedigreed German Rexes.
