KORAT
Korats are a shorthairs with a small to medium build and a low percentage of body fat; their bodies are often described as semi-cobby, and carved with muscles and are surprisingly heavy for their size. They have heart-shaped head with round, oversized but remarkable peridot-green eyes. The shape of their head gives them a rather innocent expression. The paws are oval and compact, and the pads are dark-blue. Hind paws have four toes, while front have five. They lack the undercoat so they cannot withstand cold environment at all. If you let them out in the winter be careful to protect them accordingly. They are an active cat and form strong bonds with people. The Korats can also be pushy, stubborn, demanding and relentless in having their own way. Korats are best kept in pairs. A single Korat will tend to be unhappy, especially if they are not getting enough attention. They truly love spending time grooming, sleeping and playing with another Korat. Korats are easily startled by loud noises. Korats seem most at ease living with a quiet household.
ORIGIN: The Korats are native to Thailand. There they were called Si-Sawat which means “lucky”
and they used to be wedding gift to new couples. The name Korat was given to them by King Rama V, after the remote high plateau in north-eastern Thailand. They supposedly originated from there. They were first mentioned in The Cat-Book poems from the Ayutthaya period (1350-1767) now preserved in the National library in Bangkok . Their looks haven't changed since then. They first appeared in America in the 1959 , by being brought as a pair Nara (male) and Dara (female) by Jean Johnson. They arrived in Britain from there in 1972 . To be recognized as Korats, they are not allowed to crossbreed with other breeds.
