MANX
Beside lacking the tail, the Manx is known for its robust and rounded appearance. They have short front legs, with longer hind legs. That gives them distinctive „bunny hop“ gait, also known as „Manx hop“. Consequently, their movement is unlike any other cat breed, lithe and sinuous, but rather jumpy. Despite being tail-less, the Manx does not suffer from any loss of balance, and it is quite good at climbing trees. Their head is round, with full cheeks. The Manx breed is a highly intelligent cat breed , it is playful, and in its behavior, bizarre, but very reminiscent of dogs ; for example, some Manx cats will fetch small objects that are thrown. It is considered a social feline , and the breed loves humans. This attribute makes them an ideal breed for families with young children and people who prefer a companion. Some Manx tend to like water, many times even playing with it. This trait makes it very easy to give some Manx cats a shower for hygiene purposes, unlike most other cats. Their 'meow' often resembles a long, monotone grunt or rapid chirping. Manx cats have tendency to be very quiet.
ORIGIN: There are many tales how the cats from Isle of Man lost their tail. One legend says that they are the last cats to get aboard the Ark and Noah accidentally slammed the door on their tails. Other story says that Irish invaders took the tails to decorate their helmets, and experienced queens bit off their kittens' tails so they couldn't be taken. There are even stories about cats coming with Phoenician ship 1000 years ago all the way from Japan where tailless cats exist. Most likely story is that one
dominant gene became established because island is isolated. It is discussed that original mutation probably took place about 400 years ago. This gene, which is responsible for lack of tail, also has some other consequences. Their litters are small, only one or two kittens. Their spine can have severe problems, because shortening the cats' spine can seriously damage the spinal cord and the nerves which is detectable as unexplainable problems with bladder, digestion and bowels.
