OJOS AZULES

The Ojos Azules are medium sized cats. They are fine boned of moderate type. They are not cobby or rangy and they don't have oriental characteristics. Their hind legs are slightly longer than front. Their paws are oval and small, consistent with bone structure all over. Their fur is silky and shiny, and can be in any color. They can look as any other ordinary moggie but with beautiful deep blue eyes. But their eye color is not like other blue eye gene, unlike the blue eyes seen in other cat breeds linked to the genes in bicolor cats and cats with point coloration, both of which suppress pigmentation, this gene is not linked to any certain fur color or pattern, giving the opportunity to have cats with dark coats and blue eyes. This specific gene is also not connected to other genetic diseases or problems like squinting, deafness or cross-eye.

ORIGIN: This new breed is descended from Cornflower, a tortie female discovered in New Mexico in 1984. She had very dark blue eyes, a feature normally found only in white or colorpoint cats. The breed's Spanish name means “blue eyes.” These cats have blue eyes regardless of coat color. In 1991, T.I.C.A. published a standard. The breed is very rare.
