Bitch Hila adopted kitty orphan Maks
June 7, 2006 9:00 AM
Zagreb - Whim of nature and sad destiny connected the unconnectable – bitch Hila accepted kitty Maks as her own baby few days ago, and they are inseparable ever since.
Both of them are victim of irresponsible owner who left them on the street prior to going on vacation. Temporary are kept by Nina V. in her apartment. She is activist for Infocentar for help to abandoned animals. She couldn't believe when she saw Maks comfortably settled in a basket near Hila one morning. After just few minutes, he started sucking milk from Hila.
“When he was fed, Maks stretched and obviously pleased went to his basket. Hila licked him entire time. I don't even know if Hila have milk, or was it just very strong mother instinct and strong habit. But they both seem happy, and that is what matters.” said Nina. The same thing happened the next day, and it is repeating every day since today. They obviously won't go away from each other. Two mutually hostile species developed feelings far deeper then friendship, which can explain background of what is happening.
Jadranka Dragovic, leader of Infocentar for help to abandoned animals, said that Hila and her puppy were found a month ago helplessly wandering in the streets. Very soon they have been picked up and put to cages of Veterinary-hygiene service. They spend the whole month there waiting for possible new owners. Puppy get new owner very soon, but Hila remained. She would be euthanized, if activist haven't heard about her and temporarily placed her in Nina's apartment. Nina already had Maks, which was also found abandoned on the street. Hila lost her puppy; Maks lost her mother, so they found comfort in each other. Her motherly instinct was still strong, and Maks was too young to learn to be afraid of dogs. After very sad life path, they seem happy at the moment.
Veterinarians claim those cases are not so uncommon because they are actually very similar species. Dr. Vet. Stanislav Mrkobrada said that strong motherly instinct can break every natural law. “It is very probable that Hila and Maks will remain devoted to each other for the rest of their life. Hila will always look at Maks as her puppy. I've seen many cases like this.” said Mrkobrada.
