CATXDOG - Cat and Dog breeds guide

Welcome to the CATXDOG project, the site for both cat and dog lovers. Here you can find most of information you need about your cat breed or your dog breed. Information will not be as detailed as in some veterinary handbook but mostly basic and what you should know about your animal. It is mentioned to be used as a guide through cat breeds and dog breeds.

As everything in the world, knowledge about cats and dogs is growing as you're reading this. Because of that this site will also grow accordingly. There is always possibility that I missed something. Because of that I set up a forum so everybody can discuss everything about cats and dogs. Please have in mind that there are numerous dog breeds and cat breeds so I would need quite some time to set them all online.

But not everything on this site is scientific or serious. We have our pets because we love them and care for them. They can make us laugh and feel good. Cats and dogs can have some great and hilarious moments. If you caught those moments on the photo please send them to me so that everybody can enjoy in them. If you can also write a story about your animals send them also.

CAT (from Wikipedia)

The cat, also called the domestic cat or house cat, is a small feline carnivorous mammal of the subspecies Felis silvestris catus. Its most immediate pre-domestication ancestor is believed to be the African wild cat, Felis silvestris lybica. The cat has been living in close association with humans for between 8,000 and 3,500 years.

There are dozens of breeds of cats, some hairless or tailless, and they exist in a variety of different colors. They are skilled predators and have been known to hunt over one thousand different species for food. They are also intelligent animals, and some can either be trained or learn by themselves to manipulate simple mechanisms such as lever-handled doors and flush toilets. They communicate by calling ("meow"/"miaou"), purring, hissing, growling, and body language. Cats in colonies use a mix of vocalizations and body language to communicate with each other. Because the domestication of the cat is relatively recent, cats may also still live effectively in the wild, often forming small colonies. The cat's association with humans leads it to figure prominently in the mythology and legends of several cultures, including those of the ancient Egyptians, ancient Chinese, and Norse.

Dog breeds

DOG (from Wikipedia)

The dog is a mammal in the order Carnivora, family Canidae. Dogs were first domesticated from wolves at least 10,000 years ago, but perhaps as early as 100,000 years ago based upon recent genetic fossil and DNA evidence. In this time, the dog has developed into hundreds of breeds with a great degree of variation. For example, heights at the withers range from just a few inches (such as the Chihuahua) to roughly three feet (such as the Irish Wolfhound), and colors range from white to black, with reds, grays (usually called blue), and browns occurring in a tremendous variation of patterns. Dogs, like humans, are highly social animals and this similarity in their overall behavioral pattern accounts for their trainability, playfulness, and ability to fit into human households and social situations. This similarity has earned dogs a unique position in the realm of interspecies relationships. The loyalty and devotion that dogs demonstrate as part of their natural instincts as pack animals closely mimics the human idea of love and friendship, leading many dog owners to view their pets as full fledged family members. Conversely, dogs seem to view their human companions as members of their pack, and make few, if any, distinctions between their owners and fellow canines. Dogs fill a variety of roles in human society and are often trained as working dogs. For dogs that do not have traditional jobs, a wide range of dog sports provide the opportunity to exhibit their natural skills. In many countries, the most common and perhaps most important role of dogs is as companions. Dogs have lived with and worked with humans in so many roles that their loyalty has earned them the unique sobriquet "man's best friend." Conversely, some cultures consider dogs to be unclean. In other cultures, some dogs are used as food.
